Obituary for Betty J. Hartford

Betty June Hartford, 98 of Coldwater passed away Sunday, September 27, 2020 at the Laurels of Coldwater.

Betty was born May 22, 1922 to Benjamin and Ida (Schultz) West in Detroit. On January 21, 1966 she married Floyd Hartford and in 1970 they moved to Coldwater. Floyd preceded her in death on July 7, 2003.
Betty had many interests including listening to country music, doing cross word puzzles, and watching old movies. She had a love of chocolate ice cream, which could be eaten at any time of the day if offered. Betty was very fond of her dogs, always finding time to make sure they were part of the family. She will be remembered for her strong and independent will, as well as her meticulous record-keeping. Betty’s true joy in life was being around her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Hartford is survived by her daughter, Jane Kelly of Coldwater; her grandchildren Brien (Danielle) Kelly, Deb (John) Hooppaw, Pam Hadley, Cindy Hadley, Jimmy (Kate) Whalin, Donna Williams, Karen Penick and Betty Vasseur; and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Burton Whalin, Sr; her second husband Floyd Hartford; her son Burton Whalin, Jr., her daughter Barbara Hadley; her son-in-law’s Phil Kelly and Roland Hadley; and her brother Robert West.

The family will have a celebration of Betty’s life at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Oak Grove Cemetery with Pastor David Pierce First Baptist Church of Coldwater officiating. Floyd will be interred with Betty on Saturday and Military Honors will be provided by the Coldwater American Legion Post #52. The family will have an additional gathering to share memories of Betty’s life at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Coldwater. The family was cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
