Obituary for Barbara J. Mohr
Barbara Jean (Annear) Mohr May 18, 1947- January 16, 2023
Following a long illness, Barbara Mohr peacefully passed away with her family at her side, holding her hand while “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” by her favorite, Elton John, played.
Born on May 18, 1947, in Christopher, Illinois to Cynthia and Samuel Annear, and moving to Coldwater, Michigan in 1953, Barb grew up with her siblings Patricia, Cindy, and Sam.
Barb attended Coldwater schools K-12 and was her parent’s pride for her academic success. Her siblings recall the welcome they received following her in school, as teachers were quick to exclaim, “Oh, Barb’s your sister!” She was popular among peers and recognized for extracurricular activities, including cheerleading, theatre, and student leadership.
Barb met Gary Mohr of Coldwater in High School, and they married while she studied at Michigan State University. They became parents to Elizabeth, Amy and Sarah. Though divorced, Barb and Gary remained close, enjoying holidays and celebrations together with their family.
Barb was employed for many years with Branch County Friend of the Court, Miller, Canfield, Paddock, and Stone Law Firm in Detroit, and retired from the Branch Intermediate School District in 2007.
Barb was an avid reader and would regularly read entire books in one day. She was extremely intelligent and bright. She loved the written word, and over the years penned many cherished letters, cards, and poems to her children and family. She was a wonderful cook and loved trying new foods. Her short ribs were amazing! She also loved doting on her grandchildren, Emelen, Louie, and Sidney, before suffering a debilitating stroke in November 2008.
Despite her health battles, Barb was always smiling. Those who were fortunate enough to have known her always commented on her positive attitude, her sharp wit, and her willingness to always be friendly and upbeat with everyone she encountered. Her laughter was infectious, and she brought joy to so many.
Barb will be remembered as an admired sister, dear friend, and goodhearted aunt to her six nieces and nephews, but most of all, as a loving mother and grandmother to her three daughters and her three grandchildren.
Barb leaves behind her beloved daughters, Elizabeth Stahl, Amy Mohr, and Sarah (Andy) Aseltine; her grandchildren, Emelen (Patrick) Christopher, Louie Evans, and Sidney Aseltine; her sisters, Patricia (Dan) Weaver, Lucinda (Tony) Headley, brother Samuel Annear, and her nieces and nephews. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Cynthia and Sam.
No funeral services will take place at this time, as the family will gather in the Spring to plant a tree in her memory and celebrate the enormous love that she brought to our lives.
We want to thank everyone who, over the years, helped care for Barb, but especially the angels on earth at Maple Lawn. Your genuine care, compassion, and professionalism for Barb during the most difficult days, hours, and moments of our lives will forever bring us peace and healing.
