From 1964 to 1968, I, along with my family, was glued to the TV set each week when Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea would air. The females in the room swooned over Richard Basehart and Robert Dowdell. I don't know if it was Richard's red hair and Robert's blond hair, but whatever the reason, these two were the hits of the evening.
I've just recently learned of Robert's love and generosity to animals, especially cats. Being a cat lover myself, I have the utmost respect for a man with a heart full of love for God's vulnerable creatures.
He was distinguished also in his acting and in his love of life. That love will live on.
From now on, when I see Robert on the retro stations in Voyage, Those teen-age years of mine so happily spent will come back to warm me.
God bless his loved ones.
Fair Winds and Following Seas, Lt. Commander Chip Morton.
Rest in peace, good soul.
