Obituary for Elinor G. Sweet

Elinor G. Sweet
The ever elegant Elinor G. (Bloom) Sweet, 97, of Coldwater, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 at Masonville Place.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor David Pierce from the First Baptist Church in Coldwater officiating. Interment of ashes will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held, prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 Noon on Saturday at Dutcher funeral Home.
Born October 29, 1920 in Louisiana, to Swedish immigrants Sven & Hulda Bloom, she grew up on a farm in Batavia Township, but attended school in Coldwater.
Mrs. Sweet was a member of the First Baptist Church of Coldwater.
She married John Sweet during WWII. They divorced.
Always active, Mrs. Sweet worked at several local businesses, including the Coldwater Daily Reporter as comptroller, Parkside Pharmacy and Kiess Jewelry. A very astute bookkeeper, she loved to work.
In 1959, while employed by the Daily Reporter, she was sent to southern Europe reporting on her travels there. These articles were published as a series in the local newspaper.
A lover of animals, especially her dog “Poker,” she enjoyed riding horses bareback, as a girl on the family farm.
Driving a sharp car was always a thrill for her. Through the years, she proudly drove a couple of white Thunderbirds, a Pontiac Bonneville and her final car, her pride and joy, the white Cadillac.
A woman of impeccable style, Mrs. Sweet was always beautifully dressed complete with jewelry and high heels. Every hair in place with fingernails always polished, she never went anywhere without applying fresh lipstick.
Family was always important to her. She cared for her ailing mother for many years and was always available to friends in need of care.
Elinor took great pride in her three nephews, loving them and their families as her own.
Mrs. Sweet is survived by her three nephews Eric (Patty) Bloom of Canton, Bruce (Melinda) Bloom and Doug (Sharon) Bloom all of Coldwater. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister-in-law Thelma Bloom, niece Gaye F. Bloom and beloved brother Roy A. Bloom.
