Obituary for Emerson G. Legg

On November 25, 2017, God called Emerson G. Legg, 76, home, probably to lay a field-stone fireplace.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Quincy United Methodist Church with Pastor Richard Wilson officiating. Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Emerson was born February 24, 1941 in Allegan, Michigan. He was the fourth of five boys born into the Legg family, being the first born to Paul and Mary (Middaugh) Legg. Charles and Keith had been born from a previous marriage of Paul’s. Robert Smith was later adopted and Albert was born two years later. Emerson was raised in a masonry family and found he had the aptitude to do the same after graduating from Gobles High School in 1959. In 1960, he met and married Carolyn Rounds, having Cynthia in 1962 and Alec in 1964. He worked as a bricklayer in the Wayland area until 1973, when he moved to Quincy and became a partner with his brother, Albert. At times, their partnership resembled a family reunion with Paul, Robert Smith and many other family members helping.
Having been divorced, he met the love of his life, Vicki Mulberry, whom he married June 30, 1979 in Coldwater. He also had established an independent business in masonry. They had Mary in 1985 and Travis in 1987. His business thrived until his health began to fail last year. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Quincy and proud to have been a part of the friends of Bill W. for 38 years. He was an avid Detroit Lions and University of Michigan football fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Emerson is survived by his wife of over 35 years Vicki, daughters Cynthia and Mary, sons Travis and Alec, his brother Robert Smith, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to the Quincy United Methodist Church. www.dutcherfh.com
