Obituary for Donald E. Schrock

Donald E. Schrock
Donald Eugene Schrock passed peacefully into eternity with his Lord and Savior on November 20, 2017.

Don never met a stranger and was universally loved by everyone who ever met him. Whenever he entered a room or saw a crowd, he considered it a ready-made audience. Don bled orange and blue as a lifelong Detroit Tiger and even ventured to Lakeland, Florida to watch them during spring training. As a Detroit Lions fan, imagine his dismay when his grandson’s blood turned Packer green and yellow after at a family outing at the Silverdome.

He was born on January 23rd, 1939 to Serenus and Malinda (Ropp) Schrock in Midland, Michigan. Don grew up in Midland and moved to Wauseon, Ohio at the age of nine. He was a proud member of the class of 1957 of Wauseon High School. He also attended Delta Jr. College.

He worked his whole life as a truck driver and retired from trucking in 2002. Then he segued into volunteer work as a non-emergency medical driver in 2002 until his passing.

He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in the fall of 1955 at a revival service. He was an active member of the Coldwater Free Methodist church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and took care of the church vehicles for over 17 years.

A previous marriage to Sara (Zaerr) McGinnis resulted in their three children and a lifelong friendship. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, 5 months, and 2 days Linda (Marshall) Schrock; daughter Peggy (Mark) Larrick of Leesburg, Ohio; sons Jerry Schrock of Mason, Ohio and Kent Schrock of Archbold, Ohio; stepdaughters, Nicole (Mark) Amsler of Noblesville, Indiana; Danielle (Brent) Blowers of Burlington, Michigan; Cassandra (David) Emison of Union City, Michigan, and several grandchildren, Adam Cokonougher; Ryan, Emily, and Sarah Wunder, Delaney and Spencer Amsler, and Lane Blowers.

He is also survived by his sisters, Gladys Nofzinger, Annabelle Rupp, and Mary Rogoff and countless nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Verda Rupp and Ilva Stuckey, and baby granddaughter, Sarah Jo Larrick.

Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017 3-6 pm at Dutcher Funeral Home and Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017 2-3 pm at Coldwater Free Methodist Church. The memorial service will be held at 3 pm at Coldwater Free Methodist Church on Fremont Street, Coldwater Michigan with a dinner to follow. Please plan to share your memories and laughter as we celebrate Don’s life. Any monetary donations can be made to the Coldwater Free Methodist Church (Outreach program) or the Salvation Army in Don’s name. www.dutcherfh.com
