Obituary for Phyllis J. Stankewicz

Phyllis J. Stankewicz, 97, of Coldwater, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Drew’s Place of Coldwater.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Coldwater with Rev. Fr. Paul Redmond officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 15, 2017 from 4-8:00 PM, with the Rosary to begin at 7:00 PM, at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater. Interment of Ashes will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Tekonsha at a later date.
Phyllis was born August 10, 1920 in Tekonsha, MI to Arthur and Estella (Williams) Wagoner. She graduated from Tekonsha High School in 1938 and married the love of her life Alfred T. Stankewicz on February 15, 1941 in Bryan, Ohio. He preceded her in death on November 27, 1976.
Mrs. Stankewicz was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. She retired from Coldwater Community Schools after 19 years of service in the junior and senior high school cafeterias. She was an active member of St. Charles Church where she belonged to the Council of Catholic Women. Phyllis spent many years organizing and preparing food for funeral dinners and working and playing church Bingo. She belonged to the Coldwater Area Senior Citizens, Young at Heart Group and the Evening Star Quilt Club. Phyllis enjoyed vegetable gardening, playing cards and Bingo. She was a skilled seamstress and loved making quilts for others. This past year Phyllis’ home has been at Drew’s Place where she made many new friends and enjoyed numerous activities.
Phyllis is survived by her children Philip (Donna) Stankewicz of Brighton, Bernie (Becky) Stankewicz of Coldwater, Steve (Myra Willis) Stankewicz of Kalamazoo, Jan (Al) Sheffield of Grand Rapids, Evelyn (Corbin) Grimes of Coldwater and Lynda Cerutti of Kalamazoo, her brother Maurice (Bette) Wagoner of Coldwater, her grandchildren Teresa Stankewicz, Justin Stankewicz, Jennifer Rochford, Aaron Stankewicz, Corey Dow, Jack Stankewicz, Tom Stankewicz, Quentin Cerutti, great grandchildren Jacob, Andrew, Ainsley, Leah, Anthony, Ella, Grady and Maddie, numerous nieces and nephews and her dog Babe. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Tony Stankewicz in 1973, her brother Floyd Wagoner and her beloved dogs Buster and Petie.
