Obituary for Robert D. "Bob" Shook

Robert “Bob” Duane Shook, 83 of Coldwater passed away Tuesday, August 01, 2017 at the Community Health Center of Branch County.

There will be a memorial visitation on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.

Robert was born June 10, 1934 to Otto and Viva (Burritt) Shook in Batavia Township. He graduated from Bronson High School, where he played baseball and a life-long love of the game developed. Bob married Carma “Connie” Lines on June 14, 1953. On April 27, 1991 he married Claris McMurtrie in Union City. Claris has been a loving wife and care-giver, especially over the past 8 years while Bob underwent dialysis treatments.

Bob was a very active and hardworking man. He started his working career at Coldwater Rendering and then moved to the Coldwater State Home where he was in charge of the power plant. Bob played an active role in the forming of King Electric. He had as entrepreneurial spirit and owned and operated Coldwater Recreation, the Cadet Motor Inn, and the Whistle Stop. Later he also worked at Vincent’s Painting in Tekonsha. He was a long-time member of the Coldwater Elks, Eagles, and Moose lodges.

Robert was an avid Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs fan. He was very skilled in both electrical and woodworking. Bob liked traveling, especially going to the Upper Peninsula. He enjoyed deer hunting and golf. His true joy in life was spending time with his sons. He will be remembered for his honesty & integrity. Bob always had a positive outlook on life. He will be missed by many.

Robert is survived by his wife of 26 years, Claris Shook of Coldwater; his sons Grant “Skip” (Kim) Shook of Coldwater, and Robin (Ragen) Shook of Cadillac; seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild; many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and one brother.
