Obituary for Helen I. Post

Helen Irene Post, 82 of Coldwater passed away peacefully Monday, July 3, 2017 at her home in Bronson while surrounded by family.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 10, 2017 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Terry Siler of the First Congregational Church of Bronson officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM.
Helen was born September 10, 1934 to J. Raliah and Ruth (Lehman) Stemen in LaGrange. After graduation from high school, she worked for 40 years as an aide taking care of children at the State Home in Coldwater retiring due to health reasons just prior to the home closing. On June 20, 1953 she married Darold Thompson, they later divorced. He preceded her in death in October 1995.
Helen loved children. She spent hours with her “work kids” and then would come home to keep her sons and later her grandchildren busy taking walks, doing homework or just spending time together. Helen liked knitting and was known for being a good cook. She was willing to help you with whatever needed help, but wanted to make sure it was done properly the first time and in the manner in which she chose to complete the task at hand.
Helen is survived by her son Norm (Cathy) Thompson of Bronson; her sister Georgia Medlock of Coldwater; her half-sisters Nancy (Dick) Aker of Coldwater, Vallie Hart of LaGrange, Phyllis (Charles) Reynolds of Three Rivers, and Sue (Ray) Riddle of Coldwater; her grandchildren Scott, Kelly, Michael, Toby, and Tyler Thompson, and Brandon Dunnigan; many great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Darold; her son Phil Thompson; her brother John Stemen; and her half-sister Charlene Winslow.
Memorials may be directed to Great Lakes Hospice or the ADAPT Activities Fund. www.dutcherfh.com
