Obituary for Leroy E. Wohlers

Leroy Elton Wohlers, 78 of Bronson passed away Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Laurels of Coldwater.

A graveside memorial service will take place at 4:00 pm on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at East Gilead Cemetery.

Leroy was born April 7, 1939 to Laurence and Eleanor (Beck) Wohlers in Gilead Township. He was preceded in death by his father in 2008 and his mother in 2004. Leroy was raised on the family farm on Orland Road south of Bronson, learning farming and life skills from his dad. He graduated from Bronson Community School in May of 1957. After graduation he worked at Ross Laboratories and later moved to Tucson, AZ to be with his dad to build airplanes. While in Arizona, Leroy worked at Phelps Dodge Copper Mine as a truck loader starting in 1986 and retiring in 2002. He moved back to Michigan in 2007 because of his father’s failing health.

Leroy enjoyed woodworking, motorcycle riding, and fishing. He was a pilot, and flew private aircraft from 1960 – 1963. Leroy had a talent for fixing many things. He was not afraid to take on projects due to his confidence and mechanical skills.

Mr. Wohlers is survived by his daughters Laurie (Jeff) Cox of Coldwater and Tracey (Steve) Penner of Sturgis; his son Michael (Sherry) Wohlers of Cogan Station, PA; 5 grandchildren and 2 great, grandchildren; his brother Gary (Penny) Wohlers of Bronson; and his sister Jean Wotta of Bronson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his uncles Frederick and Walter Wohlers.
