Donald G. Reed, 72, of Sturgis, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 at his home surrounded by the love of family, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
The funeral will be Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of Assumption Church in Bronson with Rev. Fr. Mark Vyverman officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Bronson American Legion and the Sturgis VFW. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Bronson.
Don was born May 17, 1945 in Marshall, MI to Donald & Harriet (Reniger) Reed. He served in the US Air Force from 1963 to 1967 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Mr. Reed married Janet (Hyska) McDonald on July 3, 1976 in Bronson.
Don worked at Kirsch Co., in Sturgis for 33 years until the plant closed in 2001. He was an active member of the Sturgis VFW, Post # 1355, the Bronson American Legion and the Sturgis Eagles. Don enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing darts and camping. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He was a thoughtful, strong, caring, giving and loving husband, father and grandfather and was a friend to many.
Don is survived by his wife Janet, his children Donnie (Tia) Reed of Bronson, Chris (Robin Elkins) McDonald, Kevin McDonald all of Sturgis, his siblings Penny (Harry) Alvey of Pharr, TX, Tom (Deb) Reed of LaGrange, IN, his grandchildren Karrson and Sophie Reed, Aaron McDonald, Alex, Morgan and Hannah McDonald, special friend Angie and many lifelong friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents.
