Obituary for Vivian Louise Cary

Vivian Louise (Stukey) Cary passed away on May 23, 2017 at the home of her daughter, Sherlyn Leck, in Sturgis. Vivian was born December 14, 1930, the daughter of Helen Florence (Belote) Stukey and Franklin Lynn Stukey in Sturgis, Michigan. She graduated from Brighton High School in 1947 and married James Mac Cary on October 24, 1948. They resided on St Joe Road in Burr Oak, Michigan for nearly 68 years. There, they farmed and raised gladiolas alongside each other as partners. Vivian was always in the fields helping with the glads. She was a lifelong member of Pretty Prairie United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed traveling, especially with Truman and Winnie Arver. She enjoyed bowling, golf and spending time with her family.
Surviving are her husband, James; Sister, Shirley (Stukey) Brown, Son, Robert (Gloria) Cary of Burr Oak; Daughter-in-law Marcia (Bill) Ulmer of Sturgis; Daughter, Shirley (Terry) Welker of Howe, Indiana; Son, Mark (Karen) Cary of Burr Oak; Daughter, Sherlyn (Rick) Leck; Grandchildren: Jeff (Pam) Cary of Sturgis, Tina (Rick) Miller of Sturgis, Craig (Candy) Cary, Marcie (Sean) Johnson all of Howe, Indiana, Cary (Tim Nelson) Welker of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Chancy (Angela) Welker of Johns Island, South Carolina, Carl Welker of Howe, Indiana, Joe (Jenne) Cary of Bay Village, Ohio, Adam (Lindsay) Cary of Howe, Indiana, David (Lanna) Cary of Chicago, Illinois, Luke (Carol) Cronkhite, of Bronson, Alexis (Matt) Vargo of Plymouth, Vivian (Kevin) Mullen of Portage, Samuel Leck of Sturgis, seventeen great grandchildren Olivia and Rylie Miller, Gibson and Angela Cary, Nate and Ben Cary, Max and Spencer Johnson, Easton Welker, Matthew and Millie Jane Welker, Brennan Cary, Makayala and Alex Cary, Wyatt Cary, Meyah and Layla Cronkhite, William and Gwen Vargo, Linden and McClain Mullen. She was preceded in death by her son Steve Cary and granddaughter Angela Cary.
Visitation will be Friday, May 26, 2017 from 4-7 pm at Dutcher Funeral Home in Bronson. A funeral service honoring Vivian’s life will be held Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Bronson with Reverend Mike Cary officiating. Cremation will follow.
