Obituary for Richard M. "Mike" Parent

Richard “Mike” Parent, 66, of Coldwater, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the Community Health Center of Branch County in Coldwater.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Terry Siler officiating. Visitation will take place from 2:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the memorial service at the funeral home.
Mike was born October 10, 1950 to Richard Dawayne Parent and Jacqueline V. (Stallings) Hurd in Detroit, Michigan. He married Patricia Cedar in 1983 and she preceded him in death in 2010.
Mike was self- employed making and selling fishing lures including the MIKE-A-LURE. His slogan was “You just wish you were fishing with a MIKE-A-LURE”. He had also worked for 3M in Detroit area for many years.
He was a member of the Coldwater American Legion Post #52 and the Coldwater Moose Lodge #677. He was named Mayor of Tip Up Winter Festival in 1990. Mike enjoyed fishing, camping, going to the casino, watching westerns, car shows and old cars, playing guitar, the Coldwater swap meet and car show, doing the fishing show at the Gibralter Trade Center, watching the Detroit Tigers but he especially loved being with his entire family.
Mike is survived by his children; Rick Parent Jr. of Coldwater, Shelbi (Robert) Boehmke of Petal, Mississippi, Terri Nix- Jeffries of Quincy, Mary Nix of Jackson, Amey (Patrick) Wells of Clinton Township and Connie (Levi) McClure of Baumholder, Germany; his 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; his nephew Jamie (Destiny) Brown of Coldwater and his 2 great nieces and 1 great nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Jacqueline Brown.
