Obituary for Marc W. Pebernat

Marc William Pebernat, 48, of Coldwater, Michigan, passed away in the arms of his wife on March 6, 2017, at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo after a 3 month battle against cancer.
Marc was born May 28, 1968 in Fort Wayne, IN to Rex and Judith (Smith) Pebernat. He spent his primary years in the Fort Wayne area but moved to Coldwater, MI to complete middle and high school. Upon graduation from Coldwater High School in 1987, Marc moved back to Indiana and worked as an electrician for Dynatech, Korte Electric, and Ehle Electric before starting his own electrical contracting business, Pebernat Electric, in 1995. In conjunction to doing residential electrical jobs, Marc taught as an Electro/Mechanical Technology Instructor at the St. Joseph ISD from 1997-2005. He enjoyed teaching and through his methods strived to not only teach electrical skills, but life skills to the young people he encountered. As Pebernat Electric continued to expand and demand more of his attention, Marc resigned from teaching and devoted himself fully to his company. He worked diligently to develop his company from a small residential contractor service to a nationwide energy savings specialist. He took great pride in his company’s growth and service capabilities, job quality, and accredited much of his company’s success to his 20 employees and their commitment to his vision.
Marc developed a great love of fitness and established Tungsten CrossFit in 2011. His leadership and coaching cultivated an environment at Tungsten where magic happens. Its members are family and through a cohesive effort, positively impacted the community beyond its gym doors. Marc dearly loved his Tungsten family and was lifted in their arms throughout his terrible suffering.
Marc was a generous giving and tenderhearted soul. He had a keen and subtle ability to make others laugh with his clever observations and humor. His departure from this earthly world will leave a void and he will be missed immensely. But like a pebble dropped in water, his impact on the lives of others will radiate ever outward. He was philanthropic by nature and supported active, injured or veteran service people, was quick to assist those in need, and generous with his time and equipment. He had a soft spot in his heart for animals, especially rescues. The Marc Pebernat Memorial Fund is being established to honor his memory and will be used to assist and support existing community charities. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to this fund.
Marc is survived by his wife Rhonda Hansel Pebernat, his mother and step-father Judith (Glenn) Beady of Ft. Wayne, IN, his siblings Terri (Hank) Gunder of Ft. Wayne, IN, Kim Cochran of Huntertown, IN, Jessica (Brian) Scott of Spencerville, IN, half-brother William Pebernat of Marion, IN, father-in-law Hubert Hansel of Coldwater, sisters-in-law Cindy Carroll of Kalamazoo, Patty (Kevin) Moore of Boulder, CO, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Rex Pebernat and brother-in-law John Cochran.
Visitation will be Sunday March 12, 2017 from 2-7:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater. Since Marc was so gifted at putting people at ease, the family is asking for those attending the visitation to bring a copy of a photo of their favorite picture of Marc. The photos will be used to “build” photo boards and promote sharing and celebration of Marc’s life. The funeral will be Monday, March 13, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Lockwood Community Church. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. www.dutcherfh.com.
