Obituary for Dorothy M. Derrikson

Dorothy Marie Derrickson, 102 of Coldwater passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 1, 2017 at Maple Lawn.

A funeral service will take place at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Father Rick Schark of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will follow at East Gilead Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 1:30 PM.

Dorothy was born December 22, 1914 to Otto and Margaret (Gatten) Carpenter in Jonesville. On October 12, 1947 she married the love of her life Carl Derrickson. He preceded her in death on February 7, 1978. Dorothy was a hardworking woman and worked for many years in manufacturing.

Dorothy was a long-time member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, where she helped with bake-sales and fund-raising activities. She enjoyed reading, embroidery, and doing puzzles. Dorothy enjoyed animals, especially her dog and cat. She was a very good storyteller, reminiscing about her experiences in life including attending the World’s Fair in Chicago. She will be missed by many.

Mrs. Derrickson is survived by her sister Bernita Russo of Coldwater; several nieces & nephews; a special mention to her niece Jackie Richardson and all the help given throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Carl; her sisters Pauline Laing, Mildred Kaniewski, Elma Mayhew, and Retha Kriser; her brother Charles Carpenter; and her dog “Trixie”.
