Mary was born November 11, 1919 to Walter and Mary (Jaroz) Waryasz in Camden, NJ. Growing during the depression, she learned to save and make everything last to its fullest extent. Mary raised her family with the same belief of not being wasteful and providing for your family. She moved to the Detroit area during the depression where she ended up living for many years. On August 14, 1961, she married Wilfred Markey. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1998.
Mary was a woman of faith and a long-time member of the Union City Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed going to Bible Study group. While in Detroit, she worked at Chrysler Corporation. She then traveled the country with Wilfred as he changed jobs. Upon retirement, they moved to Branch County. After Wilfred’s death, she did not leave her home much except to attend church.
Mrs. Markey is survived by her children James Hollerbach of Coldwater, Cynthia (Michael) McNaughton of Brownstown, NV, and Clark Markey of IL; 9 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; and her good friend Mary Little. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wilfred; her brother Walter Waryasz; her sisters Helen Wietaka and Jean Balaze.
