Patricia H. Whelan, 69, of Coldwater, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility. A Memorial Mass will be Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 2:30 PM at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Coldwater with Rev. Fr. Richard Fritz and Very Rev. Mark Vyverman VF officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, September 9, 2016 from 4-8:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Pat was born January 10, 1947 in Cleveland, OH to Edward & Helen (Sworski) McCune. She attended Ohio State University and earned an associates degree in early childhood education from Cuyahoga Community College. Pat married James D. Whelan on July 24, 1976 in Maple Heights, OH. In 1974, Pat came to Coldwater where she managed a daycare center. She began her career at WTVB Radio in 1978 working in the news department alongside her husband. Pat then worked in administration, becoming national sales manager for Midwest Radio Group until her retirement in 2013. Mrs. Whelan is currently a member of St. Mary’s Church in Bronson and a former member of St. Charles, where she served as Religious Education Director for many years. Pat was active in the Coldwater Downtown Business Association for more than a decade and was currently on the Branch County Community Corrections Board. She was a dedicated wife and mother and enjoyed cooking and shopping.
Pat is survived by her husband Jim, her sons Jimmy (Alisa Lambert) Whelan of Knoxville, TN, Mike (Ericia) Whelan of Coldwater, sister Holly (Dennis) Pastorelle of Brunswick, OH and her grandchildren Mason, Jackson, Ella and Carter.
