Richard A. "Dick" Garn
Richard “Dick” Allen Garn passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016 in Coldwater.

There will be a memorial service to celebrate Dick’s life at 3:00 PM on Friday, April 15, 2016 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Coldwater with Bishop Ryan Ward officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM at the church. Family and friends will have a brief graveside service at Pope Cemetery in Springport at 9:30 AM Friday morning.

Richard was born March 15, 1944 to Earl and Helen (Hayes) Garn in Traverse City. He graduated high school and continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Education from CMU. On June 14, 1969 he married Connie Shorter in Springport. In his early career, he taught elementary and middle school, along with coaching in Muskegon. Dick had an entrepreneurial spirit, and later followed new working paths. Eventually moving his family to Coldwater, he joined his brother Terry in building Eagle Printing Company. In the 1980’s Dick founded the “Oldsmobile Scramble” which he grew to become the “Worlds Largest National Golf Tournament” before he retired in 2001.

Dick was a man of faith and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a mentor for many young people during his life going back to his teaching days. Dick enjoyed business, golf, and being on the forefront of new technology. He will be remembered as a very energetic and creative man with a big heart and caring personality. His true joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren.
