Bernice was born March 21, 1914 to Rev. Harvey and Anna (McAfee) Metzger in Bronson. She lived either in Springfield, OH or Bronson her whole life. Bernice married the love of her life Clarence Gump on December 16, 1931 in West Milton, OH. They moved to Bronson in 1933. He preceded her in death on October 2, 1995.

Bernice was a loving wife, mother, and grandma. She enjoyed being at her home where she was a fabulous cook. Bernice was known by “Mom” by many, as she fed many of the kid’s friends. She had a soft spot for babies, whether they were her own family or not. Other than cooking, she liked canning various foods. A long time standing house rule after the kids were grown was stopping by on Sunday for coffee and most likely a big meal later in the day. She will be missed by many.

Mrs. Gump is survived by her children Betty (Don) McQuiston of Meadville, PA, Harold “Dean” (Patricia) Gump of Bronson, Terry (Jan) Gump of Sturgis, and Gary (Maryanne) Gump of Burr Oak; her son-in-laws George (Dee) Meek and Harley (Bertha Colpetsir) Bercaw; 27 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, 75 plus great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clarence; her daughters Eunice Bercaw and Verda Meek; her sons Robert, Ed, and Roy Gump; her daughter-in-laws Cheryl, Marie, Mary, and Sussie Gump; her brothers Ora, Ray, Calvin, Harvey, and Walter Metzger; her sisters Daisy Patton, Glena Mae Chaney, and Mary Maine; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
