Obituary for Lawrence "Larry" Johnson

Lawrence “Larry” Johnson, 85, of Girard Twp., passed away on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Maple Lawn.
The funeral will be Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 11:30 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Most Reverend Mark Vyverman V.F. from St. Charles Church officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home.
Larry was born April 2, 1930 in Coldwater, MI to Henry & Anna (Carr) Johnson. He graduated from Quincy High School in 1947 and served as a chef in the U.S. National Guard.
Mr. Johnson had worked in Harrison as a lumberjack and spent 20 years with the Branch County Road Commission, from which he retired. He was a lifelong farmer, raising animals and growing vegetables. He generously donated much of his crop to the Senior Center and the Food Pantry and enjoyed prescribing home remedies to others. Larry was an avid racing fan who enjoyed races at Butler Motor Speedway and was always there to help anyone in need.
Larry is survived by his nephews Jim (Terry) Johnson of Quincy, Steve (Sandy) Johnson of Coldwater, Larry Johnson of Minneapolis, MN, Bill (Cheryl) Johnson of Battle Creek, Ed (Deb) Mercer of Coldwater, nieces Nancy Johnson, Candy (Kevin) Cox all of Coldwater, Mary Jo (Wayne) Bellinger of Milwaukee, WI, sister-in-law Jeanie Johnson of Coldwater and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers William, Thomas and Robert Johnson, nephew Bud Johnson and sister-in-law Doretha Johnson.
