Obituary for Ella May Hickok

Ella May Hickok, 88, of Quincy, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Maple Lawn.
The funeral will be Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Brad Parrish officiating from the Union Church in Quincy. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Quincy. Visitation will be Friday, October 2, 2015 from 5-8:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home.
Ella May was born October 19, 1926 in Quincy, MI to Spencer & Lola (Knapp) From. When she was 5 years old she met Paul W. Hickok and they quickly became sweethearts. She and Paul were married October 3, 1947. Together they build a small house on Liberty Street in Quincy. As their family grew so did the house, eventually becoming a home for 5 children. Paul and Ella lived in the house until Paul preceded her in death on November 6, 1999.
Ella May attended Quincy Schools where she was a majorette and also wrote the senior play which was performed on stage. She graduated as valedictorian in 1944.
Mrs. Hickok worked for Quincy Hardware, Quality Springs and had been secretary to the Quincy Schools superintendent. She was secretary and bookkeeper for the family business Hickok Construction and had worked for 20 years at the CHC Pediatrics office, from which she retired.
Ella May was a member of Union Church since 1954 and had enjoyed golfing and bowling on leagues for many years. She loved to birdwatch and build bird houses, work in her yard and tend her flower gardens but most of all Ella May loved being a mom to her children and a grandma to many.
Ella May is survived by her children Brian Hickok, Brad (Vickie) Hickok, Terry (Shirley) Hickok all of Quincy, Julie (John) Abe of Coldwater, Lisa Hickok of Groton, MA, her brother Earl From of Lady Lake, FL, 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her sister Frances Knirk.
