Donald J.  Gunterman
Donald “Don” James Gunterman, 62, formerly of Coldwater, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 in Novi.
A memorial service will take place at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor David Anderson officiating. A private scattering of ashes will take place at a later date. Visitation will be prior to the memorial service beginning at 1:00 PM.
Donald was born August 15, 1952 to Oscar Gunterman and Katherine Kauthenberger-Kennedy in Aurora, IL. After graduating from high school, Don served his country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. Once his service with the Navy was completed he earned an Associate’s Degree, then started a 30 plus year career as a Correction’s Officer with the State of Michigan. Don worked in both Jackson and Coldwater, before retiring in 2009.
Mr. Gunterman was an avid hunter. He enjoyed hunting all game animals from bear to pheasant, especially bow-hunting. Don was a former member of the Coldwater Eagles and Eagle Riders, where he enjoyed riding his Harley. He also bowled and played softball for many years. Don was known for his great stories and his strong will. Most of all, he treasured time with his family and was a great “Papa” to his grandkids.
Mr. Gunterman is survived by his children Angeline (Timothy) Kennard of Pinckney, Kristopher (Nicole) Gunterman of Jackson, and Nathaniel Gunterman of Jackson; his brothers Larry (Pam) Kennedy of Montgomery, IL and Dave Kennedy of Jackson; his grandchildren Carter, Taylor, and Cody Kennard all of Pinckney. He was preceded in death by his parents and his favorite dog “Skeeter”.
