Phyllis J. Bunce
Phyllis J. Bunce, 95, of Coldwater, left this world on her birthday, May 11th, 2015 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 17th , 2015 from 4 to 6 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home. The service will be held Monday, May 18th, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Fr. Rick Schark of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater.
Phyllis was born May 11th, 1920 in Branch County to Don R. Harris and Marie Pearl (Garlets) Harris.
Phyllis graduated from Coldwater High School in 1938. Phyllis was first chair clarinet in the CHS band, orchestra, and dance band.
She married Lester Bunce on April 14th, 1940 in Coldwater. Phyllis and Les enjoyed nearly 70 years of marriage together, during which life took them many places. After Les returned from World War II, the couple lived in many places around Michigan while Les worked construction jobs, finally settling in Flint, when Les went to work for General Motors. Phyllis was a wonderful homemaker and worked many different jobs, including office/accounting work at the Elms Trailer Park in Flint, and later in various positions for Winkleman's stores, retiring in 1978. After Les' retirement in 1987, the couple moved back home to Coldwater where they lived an active life. Phyllis loved to travel with Lester, and took great pride in their home. Phyllis enjoyed sewing and needle work, cooking and baking, collecting fine crystal and American history. Her passion in life was the many relationships that she nurtured throughout her life, both with friends and relatives. Phyllis loved to share a meal, coffee, or just conversation with those she loved. She was never shy about sharing her opinion or offering advice, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
She will be missed by all those who loved her, including her nephews Michael (Susi) Harris of Seattle, WA, Brian Harris of Kirkland, WA, Richard (Marilyn) Bunce of Colon, Larry (Brenda) Jennings & families, the Bonfiglio and Bailey families and many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by the many dear friends she made throughout her life. Phyllis was preceded in death by Lester, the love of her life, and her brother, Donald J. Harris, who was killed in action during World War II.
Memorials may be directed to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. www.dutcherfh.com
