Dr. Dawn Gallup, 52, of Bronson, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor after a courageous fight against cancer.
Dawn was born May 13, 1962 in Battle Creek, MI to John Ross of Sarasota, FL and Donna (Moran) Horton of Battle Creek. She married her best friend, Jeffrey E. Gallup on June 25, 1988 in Battle Creek, MI.
Dawn had a passion for learning and education. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Central Michigan University and Masters and Specialist in Arts from Eastern Michigan University. Dawn earned her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Eastern Michigan University in 2008.
Dawn belonged to the Council for Administrators of Special Education and the MI Association of Administrators of Special Education. She was also a member and past president of the MI Council for Exceptional Children.
Mrs. Gallup had a great desire for educating children with challenges. She taught Special Education in Reading Community Schools from 1985 - 1988 and for Bronson High School from 1988 – 2002. In July 2002, Dawn became a Special Education Administrator for the Branch ISD, where she was currently still working.
Dawn had an appreciation for the arts and musical theatre. She helped to revive the musical theatre program at Bronson High School and had been active in Tibbits Summer Theater. She loved dance and choreography, even teaching a Zumba class at the ISD. Dawn loved to travel and experience new adventures. She had a quick wit and wicked sense of humor. Dawn was passionate toward her friends and madly in love with her family, especially her husband and three sons.
Dawn is survived by her husband Jeff, her sons Zachary Gallup of Chicago, Ryan Gallup, Jacob Gallup both of Bronson, father John (Cathy) Ross of Sarasota, FL, mother Donna Horton of Battle Creek, brothers Commander Sgt. Major James (Ashley Engles) Ross of Huntsville, AL, John (Rori) Ross of Battle Creek, sister Kelly Anne Ross of Nashville, TN, father-in-law Marlin Gallup of Tekonsha, sister-in-law Cindy Mertin of Kalamazoo, brother-in-law Gary Gallup of Tekonsha, her nieces and nephew Kaylee & Sydney Ross, Lillian, Amelia and Jack Ross.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Coldwater First Baptist Church with Rev. Cynthia Veilleux from the United Methodist Church in Bronson officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 2-6:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Dawn’s zest for life and huge personality will be missed, but never forgotten.
