William Henry Weaks, III, 93, of Quincy, MI., passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the Community Health Center of Branch County. To the end he enjoyed family visits and calls, and died peacefully, his way.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at 11:00 AM at Lester Cemetery in Algansee Twp. with Pastor Dave Anderson officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion #52 Drill Team. Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Bill or Babe Weaks was born March 15, 1921 in New Madrid City, MO., to William Weaks Jr. and Lora May Robinson. He had two brothers. Bill served in the US Army, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, with assignments as a supply NCO and for the Military Intelligence Div. at Camp Ritchie, MD. Bill married Dorothy Margaret Firestone on April 23, 1949, in Indianapolis, IN., where they resided until retirement. Margaret preceded him in death on April 23, 1983.
Mr. Weaks worked for the US Postal Service in Indianapolis for over 30 years, retiring in June, 1979. After his retirement he and Margaret came to live on Marble Lake in Quincy. Bill enjoyed the lake where he shared many family reunions and other family gatherings, boating, games of badminton, and playing cards. Quite the handy man, Bill improved his home on the lake as well as houses he and Margaret lived at while still in Indianapolis. He also loved to bowl and tell “Hee Haw” jokes. After his wife died, Bill became a “snow bird”, enjoying his winters on the west coast of Florida for many years.
Bill is survived by his daughters Marcia Weaks of Boulder, CO, Tina Weaks of Quincy, and many cousins and in laws. His son, Curt Michael, died in 2008.
