Obituary for Virginia M. Shillings

Virginia May Shillings, 87 of Coldwater passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at her home.

A funeral service will take place at 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Dave Anderson officiating. A private interment will be at a later date at Bosworth Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service Saturday beginning at 2:00 PM.

Virginia was born February 23, 1927 to Henry and Avis (May) Zerbel in Schultz, MI. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1944. Virginia had a long career with Michigan Bell as a phone operator, where she retired in 1982. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. On May 3, 1986 she married Harold Shillings in Marshall.

Virginia was a 50 year member of the West Eckford Missionary Church in Marshall, where her mother was a founding member. After leaving Marshall, she attended the Quincy Calvary Baptist Church for 25 years. Virginia enjoyed traveling, walking, and working in her flower gardens, especially with wildflowers.

Mrs. Shillings is survived by her husband of 28 years, Harold Shillings of Coldwater and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Doretha E. Elyea; her brothers Marshall Dean and Lohrman Zerbel. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for all their work and support.

The family requests that no flowers be sent and memorials may be directed to a charity of choice. Harold will plant flowers in remembrance of Virginia and would like family & friends to stop by to visit and see the flowers. www.dutcherfh.com
