Phyllis I.  Crandall
Phyllis Irene (Tice) Crandall, age 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on Wednesday December 10, 2014 at Drew’s Place in Coldwater, where she had resided for over two years. Visitation will be held at the Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson on Sunday December 14 from 5 to 8. The funeral service will be at the Batavia Community Church on Monday December 15 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Batavia Cemetery.

Phyllis was born January 6, 1925 in Bethel Township, middle daughter of F. Stanley and Gladys (Fenner) Tice. She attended the Island and Batavia Station Schools and was the valedictorian of her 1942 Bronson High School class. After high school, she completed secretarial training at Elkhart Business School in Elkhart, IN. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at Wolverine Portland Cement Company in Coldwater and Kalamazoo, Williams Jewelry in Kalamazoo, L.A. Darling in Bronson, W. F. Read and Company and the Batavia Co-ops in Batavia, and she finished her career at Bronson High School retiring as the principal’s secretary in 1981.

On July 14, 1945, at her parents’ home in Batavia Township, Phyllis married Cleo Crandall, whom she had known since childhood. They were married 62 years until Cleo’s death in 2007. When first married they lived in Kalamazoo, until moving to their farm in Batavia Township in 1950, where Phyllis lived until she became ill in 2012.

Phyllis was a member of the Batavia Community Church, which she attended since she was a child. She taught Sunday School and served as church treasurer. Also Phyllis belonged to the Batavia Cooperative Extension Club, Batavia Grange, Centennial Reading Circle, the local chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, and the senior group meeting at the Coldwater United Methodist Church. She enjoyed many bus trips, camping, swimming, sewing, playing the piano, and was a wonderful cook and baker. She loved to entertain family and friends in her home.

She will be sadly missed by her son Gary (Kathy) Crandall of Bronson, daughter Ruth Boucher of North Muskegon, two sisters Lamoine Hand of Bronson and Patricia Hadden of Coldwater, and her four grandchildren Jason (Lisa) Crandall of St. Johns, Karisa (Eric) Steiner of Fishers, IN, Nicholas Boucher of Grand Rapids, and Jennifer Boucher of Caledonia. She also is survived by nine great-grandchildren. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Cecil Tice & Charles Tice.
