Obituary for Carl Ellsworth Brooke

Carl Ellsworth Brooke, 92 of Coldwater passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at his home.

A graveside funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 1, 2014 at Deepdale Memorial Park Chapel in Lansing with Timothy Covert of The Greater Lansing First Assembly of God officiating.

Carl was born November 16, 1921 in Lansing to Forest and Estle (Ellsworth) Brooke. After graduation from high school, Carl proudly served his country during WWII in the US Navy. Upon return from his service duty, Carl married Elizabeth “Betty” Cromley on May 19, 1946 in Lewisburg, PA.

Carl was a loving family man with many interests. He worked his entire career for Michigan Bell as an electrical engineer, retiring in 1979. In 1998, he and Betty moved to Coldwater where they built a house on Shawnee Shoals. Carl and Betty enjoyed traveling and wintered in Leesburg, FL for many years. He was very crafty with his hands and especially enjoyed woodworking. Carl’s main passion was flying planes. He earned his private pilot’s license and flew whenever possible.

Mr. Brooke is survived by his wife of 68 years Elizabeth Brooke of Coldwater; his son Alan (Valerie) Brooke of Richmond, VA; his daughters Susan (Gerald) Presley of South Lyon and Gina Brooke of Saline; his sister Carolyn (Robert) Elston of Potterville; grand-children Colleen Brooke of Richmond, VA, Jeffery (Alisa) Brooke of Richmond, VA, Brooke Stevens of Highland, and Abby (Kenneth) DeVries of Fenton; great grand-children Calvin, Danielle, Oliver, and Griffin; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Neal, Jim, and Bill; his sister Betty.
