Obituary for Shirley A. Zabonick

Shirley A. Zabonick, 81, of Coldwater, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at her home.
The funeral service for Shirley will be Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Tekonsha First Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Perry officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 30, 2014 from 6 – 8:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Shirley was born August 19, 1932 in Emmaus, Pennsylvania to Hilton & Geraldine (Minier) Loar. She had previously married William Houser and later married Richard L. Zabonick on July 24, 1965 in Coldwater.
Mrs. Zabonick had worked as an egg candler for 14 years for the Kroger Egg Co. in Hudson and then relocated to Coldwater with the company. She worked at the Branch County Library, Stan Clayton Photography and for a few years at Wal Mart. Shirley was a member of the Tekonsha First Baptist Church, served on the CHC Citizens Advisory Board and volunteered at the Burnside Senior Center in the computer lab. She had a great love of music and enjoyed arranging and singing. She sang with the Coldwater Sweet Adeline’s for 20 years and for 10 years with the Angola Sweet Adeline’s. Shirley enjoyed flower gardening and crafting greeting cards and loved socializing with others. She was a sports enthusiast and an avid fan of MSU basketball and football. Shirley adored her family and especially loved to watch her grandchildren’s sporting activities.
Shirley is survived by her husband Dick, her daughters Deborah (Mike) Olmstead of Derby, KS, Karen (Tom) Burns of Erie, CO, her son Bill (Michelle) Houser of Winston Salem, NC, her sister Marilyn (Jerry) Mallott of Defiance, OH, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Randy Loar in 2012.
