Obituary for John Edward "Jack" Symons

John Edward "Jack"  Symons
John “Jack” Edward Symons, 95, of Lansing, passed away on April 19, 2014 at home.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 2:00 PM Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor David Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. A visitation will be on Saturday prior to the memorial service starting at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.

John was born June 13, 1918 in Flint to John T. and Florence (Freer) Symons. He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1936 and from Michigan State College in June of 1941 with an Engineering Degree. While in college, Jack married Barbara Watson of Coldwater.

In 1978, John retired from the Oldsmobile plant in Lansing, MI after 27 years. Jack loved the outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, and boating (canoeing in the summer and ice boating in the winter). Jack and Barbara moved to Pearl Beach, Coldwater Lake, Coldwater, MI shortly after retirement. In 2000 they moved back to the Lansing area. Jack’s family was his joy.

Jack is survived by his daughters Marcia (Bill) Warner of Lansing, Sherri Sutton of East Lansing, Ellen “Sue” (Tom) Fisher of Cincinnati, OH, and Barbara K. Symons of Palo Alto, CA; brother Donald (Beverly) Symons of Coldwater; grand-children John (Lynda) Warner, Chris (Garrett) McFarland, Jim (Shyla) Sutton, Richard Sutton, Kathryn “Katie” Fisher, and Joshua (Christy) Fisher; nine great grand-children; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Barbara.
