Obituary for Samuel J. Russo

Samuel J. Russo, 96, formerly of Coldwater, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Bishop Hills Elder Care Community in Rockford, MI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 12:30 PM at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Coldwater with Rev. Fr. Dan Hyman officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors presented by the American Legion, Post #52, Drill Team. Visitation will be Friday, March 28, 2014 from 6-8:00 PM, with the Rosary to begin at 7:30 PM, and Saturday, prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Sam was born November 9, 1917, in Coldwater to Joseph and Marianne (Vicari) Russo. He served with the US Army during WWII in the European Theater in 5 major battles: Normandy (second wave), Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe.

Sam married Rosemary L. Scolaro on April 12, 1945, in Chicago, IL, she preceded him in death on January 28, 2010.

Mr. Russo was a lifelong resident of Coldwater and has resided in Rockford, since 2010. He was a mold maker for L.A. Darling, and a supplies manager at Bundy Tubing Corporation. He also had been co- owner of the former Wolf's Floor Covering in Coldwater.

Sam and his wife, Rosemary, loved to dance, and proudly took second place in the first annual Coldwater "Dancing with Celebrities" competition in 2008. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, painting and sculpting, but most of all, he enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren.

Sam is survived by his sons, Joe and Deb Russo of Pensacola, FL, and Sam and Karen Russo of Weeki Wachee, FL, his daughter, Mary and Jim Buettner of Grand Rapids, his grandchildren, Joe, Angela, Tiffany, Vanessa, Sophia, Elissa, Regina, Samantha, and 6 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife he was also preceded in death by 5 sisters and 2 brothers.
