Obituary for Jerry L. Yoder

Jerry Lantz Yoder, 63, of Coldwater, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at his home.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM at The Coldwater Free Methodist Church with Pastor Nelson Brandymore officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 9:00 AM at the church.
Jerry was born February 5, 1950 in Topeka, IN to D. Wayne & Clara B. (Mercer) Yoder. He grew up in Indiana, graduating from Westview High School in 1968 and then from the former Tri-State College in 1973 with his Bachelor of Business Administration.
Mr. Yoder married Teresa K. Wagar on January 5, 1974 in Sturgis.
Jerry worked for Monarch Community Bank for over 36 years, in various positions, retiring as a loan officer in 2011, but still continued to work part time.
Mr. Yoder was an active member of the Free Methodist Church in Coldwater, serving in many capacities. From Sunday school teacher and financial consultant to conference delegate. He was very active in the church outreach programs including the Somerset Beach Campground where he served as chairman and a board member for 21 years. Jerry contributed to his community through local civic organizations including Coldwater Jaycees, Noon Rotary, Quincy Rotary and the Hillsdale Rotary Clubs. Very near and dear to Jerry was his position on the Michigan Foster Care Review Board where he served as a board member and chairman. He was recently recognized for 15 years of continuous and dedicated service to children in foster care and their families.
Jerry was best known for his humor, quick wit and love of winter weather. He enjoyed time with his family, camping, hiking and walking the beaches of oceans.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife Teresa, his son Matthew W. (Breanne) Yoder of Ft. Wayne, IN, his daughter Tonia M. Yoder of Troy, his sister Jill (Rodney) Scott of Ft. Wayne, IN, his mother-in-law Phyllis Wagar of Coldwater and his sister-in-law Priscilla (E. James) Huestis of Battle Creek. He was preceded in death by both parents and his sister Diane Yoder.
Memorials may be directed to Somerset Beach Campground or the Dessalines, Haiti Eye & Dental Clinic.
