Obituary for Sandra Ann "Sandy" York (Albrecht)

Sandra A. York, 71 of Athens, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor David Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Union City. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 from 4 – 8:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Sandra was born November 2, 1941 in Marshall, MI to Andrew & Lila Elizabeth (Baker) Albrecht. She married Martin York on September 15, 1963, he preceded her in death on March 18, 1998.
Sandy spent most of her childhood in the Marshall area, where she had grown up on a farm and was very active in 4H. She came to the Union City/Athens area in 1963, after she was married, and worked for 30 years at Eaton Corp in Marshall, retiring in 1990. Following her retirement, Sandy and her husband Marty wove rag rugs and traveled the country extensively, setting up and selling their wares at craft shows. They were instrumental in the early development of York Country Designs and continued with craft shows for 15 years.
Sandy was an avid horse lover who loved sewing, quilting, gardening and canning and working jigsaw puzzles. She was a dedicated wife and mother, but most of all she adored her family, especially her grandchildren.
Sandy is survived by her children Rex (Amy) York of Sturgis, Ross (Renee) York of Athens, Brenda (Greg) Dutcher of Athens, her sister Marilyn Coats of Battle Creek, her grandchildren Grace, Katherine & Elizabeth York all of Sturgis, Andrew (Courtney), Jayson & Michael York all of Athens, Cassie, Gregory & Rachael Dutcher also of Athens, 1 soon to be born great grandson Christian and her beloved dogs Sammie & Sassy York. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Alberta Albrecht and her brother Alan Albrecht.
